TEAM DESCRIPTIONS

LAVA and its affiliates offer several options when it comes to girls club volleyball teams, including Full Travel Team and Limited Travel Team options. Team designations — which means the label affixed to a given team to signify its particular level — and their corresponding descriptions, complete with practice and travel commitments, are listed below.

'ADIDAS' TEAMS - FULL EXTENSIVE TRAVEL

ADIDAS TEAMS … Adidas teams (ex: Lava West 14-Adidas) are elite-level full national travel teams considered by athletes who seek to train and compete and the highest levels of club volleyball. Adidas athletes are dedicated and driven with aspirations of continuing their post-club playing career at the collegiate level.

Adidas teams practice an average of three times per week (can be less for younger age groups or weeks with holidays or weekend tournaments). Each Adidas team is guaranteed an experienced Head Coach supported by a paid Assistant Coach. Tryouts for Adidas teams open in mid-August for the 15’s-18’s age groups and in early October for all age groups 14’s and under. Adidas team tuition dues range most predominantly from $2950-$3750 depending on age group.

Adidas teams include the most comprehensive travel schedule available. All Adidas teams compete in the SCVA’s regional tournament series, events for which are typically held in Anaheim or its adjacent communities and consist of seven one-day tournaments and one Regional Championship tournament (one day). Adidas teams also feature an extensive national travel schedule, which for all Adidas teams includes: the SoCal Junior National Qualifier, a three-day tournament held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles (although in some seasons might be held, at the discretion and sole decision of the SCVA, in Las Vegas); one Out-of-State Junior National Qualifier (14’s-18’s teams only), also three days with locations determined each season by team schedule availability; and the year-end tournament, a four-day out-of-state tournament held in late June to finish off the season.

Notes … All Adidas 17′s & 18′s teams will also attend the Las Vegas Classic, a three-day tournament held annually in Las Vegas over President’s Day Weekend in February. The USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships is the year-end tournament destination for all Adidas teams in the 14′s-18′s age divisions (location changes annually). The Volleyball Festival in Phoenix is the default destination for all 11′s-13′s Adidas teams (if a year-end tournament is included in the travel plan; some 11’s and 12’s teams might not include year-end travel). Any 11′s-13′s Adidas team that qualifies for the Junior National Championships will attend that tournament in lieu of the default destination.

*Adidas teams also have the option of adding additional out-of-state tournaments at the discretion of the Club Director or by consent of team families (with Director approval).

'BLACK' TEAMS - FULL TRAVEL

BLACK TEAMS … Black teams (ex: Lava South 16-Black) are full travel teams with many of the same destinations as Adidas teams; in some instances, the travel schedule for Adidas and Black teams are the same. Black team athletes are also dedicated and passionate, looking to train and compete at high levels, and potentially interested playing in college.

Black teams practice an average of 2-3 times per week (can be less for younger age groups or weeks with holidays or weekend tournaments, depends also on location). Each Black team is guided by an experienced Head Coach supported by a paid Assistant. Tryouts for Black teams open in mid-August for the 15’s-18’s age groups and in early October for all age groups 14’s and under. Black team tuition dues range $2295-$3750 depending on age group and location.

Black teams include a full travel schedule, but do not usually include an extra out-of-state JNQ tournament as do Adidas teams. All Black teams compete in the SCVA’s regional tournament series, events for which are typically held in Anaheim or its adjacent communities and consist of seven one-day tournaments and one Regional Championship tournament (one or two days, depends on age group). Black teams also travel nationally with a schedule that includes: the SoCal Junior National Qualifier, a three-day tournament held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles; and the year-end tournament, a four-day out-of-state tournament held in late June to finish off the season.

Notes … All Black 17′s & 18′s teams will also attend the Las Vegas Classic, a three-day tournament held annually in Las Vegas over President’s Day Weekend in February. The Volleyball Festival in Phoenix is the default tournament destination for “Black” teams (some Black teams by location feature the Summer Soiree in Anaheim as the default tournament destination). Any Black team that qualifies for the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships will attend in lieu of the default destination. Some Black teams by location will also always additionally feature an out-of-state travel tournament.

*Black teams may also elect to amend their default year-end destination — as well as the option of attending an additional out-of-state JNQ tournament — at the discretion of the Club Director or by consent of team families (with Director approval).

'GRAY' TEAMS - PARTIAL TRAVEL

GRAY TEAMS … Gray teams (ex: Lava South 16-Gray) are partial travel teams, created very specifically as need demands in very specific lostions. Gray athletes are passionate about volleyball, work hard to improve, and want to continue to play through their junior high and high school years — and want to travel to compete at major tournaments, and some even continue to play in college — but without much of the cost and time commitments required for full travel club volleyball. Gray teams have a partial travel schedule at the season’s outset.

Gray teams practice an average of 2 times per week. Each Gray team is guided by an experienced Head Coach and supported by a paid Assistant. Tryouts for Gray teams open in mid-August for the 15’s-18’s age groups and in early October for all age groups 14’s and under. Red team tuition dues range $2950-$3750 depending on age group. 'RED' TEAMS - LIMITED TRAVEL

RED TEAMS … Red teams (ex: Lava North 15-Red) are limited travel teams. Red athletes are passionate about volleyball, work hard to improve, and want to continue to play through their junior high and high school years — and some even continue to play in college — but without much of the cost and time commitments required for full travel club volleyball.

Red teams practice an average of 2 times per week. Each Red team is guided by an experienced Head Coach often supported by a floating Assistant. LOCALS TEAMS - LIMITED TRAVEL

LOCALS TEAMS … Locals teams are limited travel teams; they are equivalent to Red and White teams with Lava. Locals athletes are passionate about volleyball and want to continue to play through their junior high and high school years, but without the cost and time commitments required for full travel club volleyball.

Limited Travel teams practice an average of twice per week. Each team is guided by an experienced Head Coach. Floating assistant coaches might also be available by specific location.
