SEASON BREAKDOWN

The competitive club volleyball season runs eight months, but club volleyball can be year-round for those who wish to continue their training. LAVA has myriad training options for both in-season and during the off-season. To better help you determine the best set of offerings for you and your child, below you will find a breakdown of the season.

Age Definitions … There are seven distinct age groups in club volleyball, as follows (please note that the birthdays subsequently listed here are for the 2015-2016 club season, and change by one year with each new season): 18′s – Born After 09/01/96 (usually high school seniors); 17′s – Born After 09/01/98 (juniors); 16′s – Born After 09/01/99 (sophomores); 15′s – Born After 09/01/00 (freshmen); 14′s – Born After 09/01/01 (8th graders); 13′s – Born After 09/01/02 (7th graders); and 12′s – Born After 09/01/03 (6th graders and under). 10′s and 11’s teams (if available) compete in the 12’s age division. Athletes may play up in older divisions, but may not play in age groups younger than their birthday dictates.

Season Breakdown – 18’s, 17’s, 16’s & 15’s Age Groups

# – Club Tryouts (August) … Each competition season begins with club tryouts for our travel teams. Tryouts for our 15’s-18’s age groups (high school athletes) open in mid-August. All travel teams are formed at these times, although space might remain available (or open up) periodically over the course of the competitive season.

# – Fall Off-Season (September-November) … While 15’s-18’s are involved in their high school volleyball seasons, club volleyball has limited training options. We do have scattered positional clinics and an assortment of informal workout sessions, as well as private lessons available as schedules permit. Each LAVA location has its own specific offerings.

# – Club Volleyball Season (December-June) … The competitive season for 15’s-18’s begins after Thanksgiving. Practices will begin at this time and continue through December with the first tournaments set for January. January through June is a continuation of practices and tournaments, some regional tournaments and some national travel tournaments. The season concludes with a year-end travel tournament at the end of June. For an explanation of what the travel team schedule might entail, click here.
