The Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA) is an affiliation of volleyball clubs based in Southern California, and has quickly developed into one of the premier junior athletic organizations in the country. LAVA’s affiliates — all unique, but all dedicated to LAVA’s overarching mission statement of Volleyball Done Differently, which drives us to do boldly, differently, and better in every single aspect of our enterprise — combine for more than 80 teams and 800 athletes.
Locals VBC of LAVA (aka “LAVA Locals”) is the exclusive limited travel volleyball club for junior high and high school age girls. LAVA Locals offers an opportunity for young female athletes to play on a volleyball team that competes against other clubs — as well as access and benefit from the LAVA training program at the hands of our excellent LAVA coaches — but without the financial commitment and time commitment that come with playing on a full travel club team.
LAVA Locals is based out of the San Fernando Valley and serves the Valley and its adjacent communities. The Locals program has been a strong and popular offering for athletes 13-18 years of age since its inception in 2012. Under the guidance of Club Director Sheldon Sheehy, Locals boasts strong coaches and a slate of excellent limited travel team options for those athletes looking for a more limited cost and/or time commitment required to play. Based out of Heritage Christian School, LAVA Locals fields several teams annually across the various age divisions of the SCVA.
Note: the Locals program serves the San Fernando Valley, but there are limited travel teams options housed under our affiliate locations. LAVA North in Santa Clarita and LAVA West in Thousand Oaks offers limited travel teams similar to the teams at Locals, but serving more specifically the Santa Clarita and Conejo Valleys, respectively. Locals teams only compete in the series of regional tournaments run by the SCVA (Southern California Volleyball Association), the governing body for club volleyball in Southern California. This amounts to approximately eight (8) individual days of competition between the start of the season in December and the end of the season in late May. Locals teams practice twice per week with one Head Coach and sometimes an assistant coach for support (assistant coaches float between teams as needed).

Locals coaches adhere to a training regimen crafted by the successful, experienced principal figures of LAVA; all of what makes LAVA affiliates great — structured training, quality coaching, exceptional values, and superior ethics — are on front and center display. LAVA is committed to improving the overall knowledge and skill-set of not just our players, but each and every coach we have, as well. Our coaches appreciate the flexibility our structure provides — while there is an overall framework in place to guide them, the framework allows each coach to bring major elements of their own personality and style into play, allowing for the use of their own particular strengths and their own particular passions.
The Locals program is thoughtfully, comprehensively designed — as are all of the affiliates of LAVA — to provide our players with excellent training and instruction, challenging competition, encouragement, and an overall winning athletic experience, while at the same time offering parents an efficient administration, open lines of communication, a familial environment that cares about its players, and an organization dedicated to providing tangible value for every dollar spent. We have experienced tremendous success with this approach and deeply believe in its each and every element, and the value and significance of realizing it year after year. LAVA Locals is an exciting piece of our greater LAVA puzzle; we hope you choose to join us and we look forward to seeing you in the gym!
