The Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA) is a premier youth and junior volleyball organization based in Southern California. The program is the combined effort of multiple distinct locations working in tandem with one another and boasts collectively more than 70 teams and 750 competitive athletes. Director of Operations Nabil Mardini and Director of Development Trevor Julian oversee the LAVA collective, both founding members of the organization as a whole.

LAVA WEST (THOUSAND OAKS, CA) — LAVA West is a program on the cusp of greatness after multiple seasons full of successes across the spectrum of age divisions. Based in Thousand Oaks, LAVA West taps into the talent-rich regions of Ventura County, Malibu, and the Conejo and Simi Valleys, and seeks to bring about a change in the culture of an area stretching from Woodland Hills to Santa Barbara, which has the raw athletic talent to find club volleyball success on a national scale but has never had the sustained quality coaching and training required to reach it — nor an understanding of what kind of hard work and determination it takes to compete at the highest levels … until now.

LAVA West has been a consistent presence in the SCVA’s Gold Bracket for the past several seasons, as well as enjoyed success at a series national travel tournaments, including: a USA Volleyball Girls 18’s Junior National Championship Gold Medal in 2017, a Bronze Medal won at the 2017 Mideast JNQ, a 16’s Gold Medal won at the 2016 Pacific NW JNQ, a 15’s Bronze Medal won at the 2016 SoCal JNQ, a 14’s Bronze Medal won at the 2016 Junior National Championships, a 14’s Gold Medal won at the 2015 SoCal Junior National Qualifier, eight qualification bids to Junior Nationals in the past four seasons, and an 18’s Division Volleyball Festival Championship Gold Medal to cap the club’s inaugural season. With a handful of excellent practice facilities in Thousand Oaks, the program fields fifteen teams annually across the seven age divisions of the SCVA. The Division Director for LAVA West is Trevor Julian with Robert Haar as Division Manager.

For the coming club season, building off early accomplishments and working with a new set of bold, long-term competitive goals, LAVA West has compiled one of the most phenomenal group of coaches you are likely find anywhere in the region — names like long-time successful club coaches Trevor Julian and Dhiraj Coats — with exciting new faces brought in to complement an existing staff that features some of the finest coaches working in the area today.

The group has won awards and accolades as players and coaches at nearly every level — club, high school, college, professional — and has produced teams as coaches that have won gold, silver, and bronze medals in Junior National Qualifier and Junior National Championship competition, won multiple Festival Championships, and competed in Division One of the SCVA every year for the past fifteen years.

LAVA West features multiple program offerings with options for all ages and skill levels, including non-travel and skills development programs. Our youth skills program for 3rd-5th graders, also known as LAVA Lite @ LAVA West, and our advanced youth program for 5th-6th graders, also know as Lite Plus @ LAVA West, run over four seasonal sessions — Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall — with 6-12 practices per session (depending on season) at total cost of ranging from $125-$195. Our non-travel program for 7th-9th graders is called the West Walk-Ons and also runs over seasonal sessions with 6-12 practices per session at total cost of $250 or less. All this, in addition to the LAVA West competitive travel teams for ages 10-18.
