The Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA) is a premier youth and junior volleyball organization based in Southern California. The program is the combined effort of multiple distinct locations working in tandem with one another and boasts collectively more than 70 teams and 750 competitive athletes. The Club Director of the LAVA collective is Nabil Mardini with Assistant Director Trevor Julian, both founding members of LAVA as a whole.

LAVA SOUTH (STUDIO CITY, CA) — LAVA South teams are considered some of the finest collections of coaching and athletic talent in the SCVA region with an excellent history of success. Based out of Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City, the program fields fifteen teams annually across the seven age divisions of the SCVA. LAVA’s Director of Operations Nabil Mardini directly oversees LAVA South as its Division Director.

LAVA South teams are consistent performers at the highest levels in the region, with top “1’s” teams often competing in Division One of the Southern California Volleyball Association Power League for their respective age groups. LAVA South is also recognized nationally as a strong and flourishing program with myriad excellent finishes at national travel tournaments, including multiple Volleyball Festival Championships and Junior National Championship bids, highlighted most recently by the LAVA South 17-1’s Bronze Medal at the 2016 Junior Nationals.

Club Tryouts for the 2017-2018 club season (click here for more info) will open on August 12 for the 15’s-18’s age groups and on October 07 for the 11’s-14’s age groups. LAVA South will house full travel teams and limited travel teams. What is Full Travel? Click here. Have interest or want more information? Please contact our staff.

What is non-travel? Non-travel programs are skills training and development programs with no competitive travel component. These programs tend to be session-based (a certain number of weeks) and seasonal (one session per season), not team-based with a variety of programs available for youth and junior athletes from grades 03-09.

The LAVA South coaching staff always features an excellent mix of experienced, exciting new faces and popular, recognizable returning coaches — including the Head Varsity Coach at Campbell Hall, one of the most successful and long-standing club coaches in the area, and an Assistant Coach at Pepperdine Men’s Volleyball — and success is built into their very tin and timber. The group has won awards and accolades as players and coaches at nearly every level, bringing centuries of experience and a pedigree of sustained success to the table for the oldest of the four LAVA Girls branch locations.

LAVA South features multiple program offerings with options for all ages and skill levels, including non-travel and skills development programs. Our youth skills program for 3rd-5th graders, also known as LAVA Lite @ LAVA South, and our advanced youth program for 5th-6th graders, also know as Lite Plus @ LAVA South, run over four seasonal sessions — Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall — with 6-12 practices per session (depending on season) at total cost of ranging from $125-$195. Our non-travel program for 7th-9th graders is called the South Walk-Ons and also runs over seasonal sessions with 6-12 practices per session at total cost of $295 or less. All this, in addition to the LAVA South competitive travel teams for ages 10-18.
