FOUNDERS & PRINCIPALS
The Los Angeles Volleyball Academy is the collaborative fruit of many respected volleyball personalities across Southern California and beyond. There are a handful of individuals, however, whose collective vision has most significantly shaped the organization, and set and guided its course: our Founding Members and Principals.
NABIL MARDINI – FOUNDING MEMBER & PRINCIPAL
Nabil Mardini is considered one of the finest volleyball minds in the region, if not the country. As Head Coach of the Pierce Women’s Volleyball Program, Nabil saw his 2010-2012 squads win back-to-back-to-back CCCAA California State Championships, with the added bonus of Nabil being named the AVCA National Two-Year College Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2012. As the long-time director for both SMBC Boys (’01-present) and SMBC Girls (’00-’10), he has extensive knowledge of the operational and training aspects of the club volleyball world. His network of contacts is extensive, owing largely to his reputation as one of the most ethical and upstanding personalities in the coaching world today. All this, in addition to time spent training professionally as a young player himself in his home country of Lebanon, not to mention an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering. As Director, Nabil handles much of the day-to-day operations of LAVA, in addition to other duties as Director for LAVA Shack and LAVA Islands. TREVOR JULIAN – FOUNDING MEMBER & PRINCIPAL
Trevor Julian brings a diverse skill-set to the table for the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy, LAVA Girls, and LAVA West. A long-time and immensely successful junior girls club volleyball coach — over the years his teams have consistently competed in Division One and Two of the SCVA and finished Top Five multiple times at various national travel tournaments, highlighted by a 2017 Gold Medal at the 18’s USAC Junior Nationals, two Gold Medals and three Bronze Medals at USAV JNQ events, a Gold Medal and National Championship at the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix in 2010, and four straight years of qualification bids to Junior Nationals (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) — he has one of the most impeccable reputations in the region for dealing with players and parents in an honest and caring way. A former award-winning volleyball player himself — captain and four-year starter for the USC Trojans, USA Men’s Olympic Youth National and also Junior National Team member (and squad captain), inaugural class inductee into the Harvard-Westlake High School Hall of Fame — he transitioned degrees in English-Creative Writing and Business Administration into a successful career in commercial real estate; his fifteen years in the business has seen him work the acquisition, disposition, exchange, or evaluation of more than one billion dollars of southland property, and the marketing/brokerage skills he developed during time spent in the business trenches gives him a unique perspective on growing the LAVA brand. In addition to spearheading strategic planning, marketing, and creative content for LAVA, Trevor is the Director of LAVA West — in charge of day-to-day dealings for the West along with the education, oversight, and development of West players and coaches. He has head coached the 14’s, 16’s, and 18’s age groups with tremendous success, and for the 2017-2018 season will Head Coach the West 16 Adidas and West 13 Adidas teams. RON HAMILTON – FOUNDING MEMBER & PRINCIPAL
Ron Hamilton brings efficiency and accuracy to his role as the primary fiscal figure for LAVA. Ron’s impressive background in the insurance world, combined with his knowledge of all things club volleyball after more than twenty years owning and operating clubs — primarily on the administrative side — not to mention an honest and impeccable character, makes him the perfect person to oversee the financial aspects, in all their myriad forms, of the Academy. Ron handles the accounts and much of the day-to-day monetary decision-making, leaving our Directors and coaches free to do what LAVA does best: educate and train. To email Ron, please click here.
Our Founding Members and Principals are some of the best in the business, but they cannot do it alone. We have an excellent administration and one of the finest coaching staffs you will find anywhere, not to mention myriad parent volunteers all working in tandem to ensure LAVA is such a special place to play, helping to make LAVA as a whole the premier junior girls club volleyball organization in Southern California, and beyond.
