LAVA South welcomes back long-time coach Brandon McLaughlin, who returns after moving south for a pair of years. The Orange County native was a high school standout at Huntington Beach High School who earned All-League, League MVP, and All-CIF honors his senior season, before parlaying his success into a collegiate career at George Mason University in the NCAA’s Division One for Men’s Volleyball, where as a middle blocker for the Patriots, he led the NCAA in blocks per game in 2009, his graduating year. While his playing days continue on a limited scale as an aspiring beach professional, Brandon is making his truest mark as a leader and mentor for the youth of the next generation — he has committed himself to full-time community service with the City of Los Angeles, working in under-served schools as a tutor, mentor, and role model for teenagers. A Gold Medal Squared Certified coach who has spent many summers traveling the country as an esteemed member of the GMS elite volleyball training circuit, Brandon also has experience at the high school level coaching low-income athletes of inner city schools. Brandon has coached several seasons of club volleyball in Orange County and Los Angeles, and we welcome him back this year!
